Zero Finder Jig

Description

I made this simple jig to perfectly find the X and Y zero for the bulk of my projects that include carving into existing items. It works by putting a 1/8" or 1/4" endmill into the spindle, lowering the spindle height until the endmill lines up with the jig's centering holes, squaring the jig to the X or Y rail, setting the X and Y zero in software, clamping down the jig, raising the spindle to accommodate the item or stock, and setting the Z zero in software.

I made this jig specifically for the Shapeoko 5 Pro Hybrid Table but it could work with other setups.

I've included the design with tool paths but you'll need to adjust as needed based on what stock you make it out of. The pictured example was made from 9.1mm maple ply scrap.

*Future improvements may include the ability to use V bits of varying sizes in addition to the existing square endmills.
